Shushi is unique in every way, and those who attribute other adjectives to Shushi are unaware of the city’s charm and cultural heritage

November 20,2020 22:30

The residents of Shushi are left in a state of confusion. They left behind everything in their native city, including their homes, jobs, and everything else that gives a person life.

Alyona Sargsyan is a master of production training at the Yeznik Mozyan Vocational School in Shushi. She said that Shushi is unique in every way, and those who attribute other adjectives to Shushi are unaware of the city’s charm and cultural heritage.

“The promises made by the authorities of Artsakh and the reality contradict one another. We are not even allowed to take one needle from our homes, not to mention our documents and furniture. I suffered and I worked. I finally was able to have a normal home. I was making a life for myself with what little I made. But now?” the Shushi resident said.

Alyona also said that she did not leave the city at all during the war. She only left and went to Armenia during the final few days due to her and her mother’s health condition. Alyona baked bread and provided soldiers with water while she was still in Shushi. When she left Artsakh, she registered with the Ministry of Defense to go to the frontlines. She was not called. She added that she dreamed of going to the frontlines during the war, but she does not know anymore where she is going and for what.

She asked herself many times who she is. But no one can answer that question. According to the Shushi resident, she fears for her life every day. She hears about conspiracies every day, and she does not want to meet Turk-like Armenians.

Alyona appealed to several government agencies to provide asylum so she could continue living in Stepanakert, in Artsakh, but she receives uncertain answers no matter whom she calls.

Alyona said that she tried to call the staff number provided for the Shushi region, but no one answered. The mayor of Shushi, Artsvik Sargsyan, began to gather residents’ data and addresses on November 18th.

Alyona said that they also violated the rights of her students to receive an education, and many of their diplomas were left behind in the hands of the barbarians.

It is a fact that work is not being carried out in an organized manner, but many people consider the country’s leader to be a traitor.

“We are not supposed to go looking for the real traitors, but the president called all of us traitors. Am I a traitor for having served my country and doing everything possible for my soldiers? Perhaps that was the least I could do, and I never would have mentioned anything if the president did not say anything,” Alyona said.

She is completely disappointed because, to put it mildly, Artsakh was gifted to the Turks. How are people supposed to live there?

People need to make a special emphasis when they are speaking and when they frequently refer to the Artsakh refugees because they do not know that Artsakh residents’ passports list the Republic of Armenia as their birthplace.

And how should people live on that one inch of land, all those evacuees? What status will they have? Who will guarantee the security of these people? These issues remain on the agenda. The uncertain future is coming… let’s see what will happen.
