The West will not oversee the expected presidential elections in this country on October 9
According to politician Gagik Hambaryan’s interpretation, Azerbaijan, being a totalitarian country, and having large supplies of oil and gas, has been able to bribe European, the so-called, democratic society and bifacial officials. “The acting President of Azerbaijan amended the country’s Constitution, according to which he can announce his candidacy as much as he wants, and will get votes as much as he wants. And, this already shows that the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan are not democratic nor free. The candidates are officially two of them, one is “Yeni Azerbayjan” party, which has centered all the power in its hands, and which is already the 3rd time nominating Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy for the presidential elections. The second candidate is the well-known cultural figure Rustam Ibrahimbekov nominated by “Democratic Forces/National Council” movement formed by several opposition forces, whose intention is already irritating, producing hysteria to the Azerbaijani authorities. In other words, they now want to get rid of this person, who lived in Russia for many years, and to be able to register in Azerbaijan as a presidential candidate, a few days ago applied to Vladimir Putin for renunciation of Russian citizenship,”-says Gagik Hambaryan. However, as characterized by our interlocutor, this candidate is a person of normal thinking, and is acting with good-neighborly calls towards Armenians.
Although he can not state that he will cede Nagorno Karabakh to Armenians, because after that the Azerbaijanis will cross him out, however, according to Gagik Hambaryan, this candidate states that Azerbaijan should find the right way to resolve the conflict with Armenians, because these two nations lived side by side for many years, they should put an end to hostility and make sure that the old friendly relations are continued. “The political forces supporting this candidate are small and almost are not presented in the legislative body of Azerbaijan, while the Azerbaijan authorities are chasing him, display hostility towards him, because, according to them, famous Azerbaijani-born oligarchs close to Kremlin are standing behind Ibrahimbekov. They are mostly not Azerbaijani by origin, but since they were born in Azerbaijan, they have great interests and positions in their historic homeland. It is no coincidence that the media serving Aliyev is largely calling Rustam Ibrahimbekov Kremlin project, ay, the aggressive policy is caused due to this. He has reached the point that he is accused of tax evasion, state money pouch, and he is already threatened that as soon as the plane lands the Baku airport, he will be arrested,”-says Gagik Hambaryan.
And how will the politician Mehriba comment on the rumors about nomination of Aliyeva’s candidacy? Our interlocutor predicts that if until the last day of registration no force majeure situation is created, then Ilham Aliyev’s wife Mehriba khanum will not even nominate her candidacy, even though the lady has already stated that her husband is the only candidate. “A month ago, the “Democratic Azerbaijan’s World” party, which reminds about itself from elections to electoins, according to the independent experts from Azerbaijan, is Ilham Aliyev’s project, announced that they would support the candidacy of Mehriba Aliyeva. Many people may laugh about this, but in reality it is a subtle policy in the sense that if Aliev it too criticized by the West and the U.S. for his domestic politics, then we can be replaced with his wife. So, here we see that Pashaev-Aliyev family tandem will continue to keep all the power in its hands: the wife becomes a president, the husband may become a prime minister. Although this is less likely, given that the West conduct bifacial policy towards Azerbaijan and is interested in having a share and benefit from Azerbaijani oil and gas,”-says our interlocutor. According to the independent experts, if force-majeure situations do not occur in Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev has a 99.9% chance of being elected, because the West is almost not going to oversee the electoral process: up to now, they have not invited the OSCE nor the Council of Europe observers. Moreover, an attack has begun against them in Azerbaijani websites, in print media, they criticize the West for interfering in their internal affairs. Meanwhile, according to Gagik Hambaryan, the West needs, so to speak, more predictable Azerbaijan, and they found a common language with Ilham Aliyev and support each other’s interests.
