“Today is a tough situation for all of us. Those who express these words to Yerkhapah: There is nothing to answer to that,” Romik Mkhitaryan, the Head of the Central Department of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union  and a member of the “Hanrapetutyun” party, told reporters in Yerablur on September 21, referring to the incident between the parents of the soldiers who died and members of the Yerkrapah Voluntary Union.

“They tell me: why are you not standing in Askeran?” What about the borders of Kapan? What about the boundaries of our Armenia? Shall we go down to Askeran? How can we leave our positions in Armenia and go to Askeran? OK, let’s go and fight there;  no problem, but who will guard our positions now? More than a thousand people are standing in positions now,” said Romik Mkhitaryan.

He added: “You also understand our mental state, how difficult it is for us. Our friends are there now; they will try to take our friends to the fortresses of Baku. We understand that very well. We are now fulfilling our duty and keeping our borders.”

Romik Mkhitaryan replied to why no military mobilization was announced in Armenia to help Artsakh. “Ask those questions to the person announcing the military mobilization; we are not announcing the military mobilization.”

He mentioned that after the dissolution of the Artsakh Defense Army, it would be necessary to start building an army from scratch, as happened in 1988. He answered that if Artsakh is recognized as part of Azerbaijan, how will they form an army, “It was part of Azerbaijan even then. We liberated, took back all that, and more. Well, let all the authorities keep it.”
